With improved transport links
and cheaper flights to this beautiful part of the world, tourists and investors
alike are now rediscovering Brazil and its colourful history and decadent
lifestyle Over the past
year several international corporations have begun to invest in the Natal
area of Brazil in the Rio Grande province of the north eastern coast. Plans
to construct luxury hotels, residential and tourist real estate are now
well under way.
Natal,
The city of the sun.
In December 25th, 1599. the
Portugueses invaded Rio Grande do Norte attacking and defeating the Dutch that
were in the possession of that part of the coastline. At the mouth of
the
Potengi river, the conquering Portuguese started to construct Forte dos Reis
Magos to protect the newly acquired territory. Now Forte dos Reis Magos is
one of the most popular attractions of Natal city, for tourists.
It’s simple to understand why: Natal has
beautiful beaches, a crystal blue, warm sea, sand dunes and sun the whole year.
Besides that, it has an excellent infrastructure for tourists and visitors.
Via Costeira, an avenue that borders some of the beaches at Natal, offers
numerous resorts and excellent hotels. Nearby, Ponta Negra beach, boasts
hundreds of small, traditional and inns.
Natal is also known because of the buggy
excursions through the dunes; the restaurants with fresh fish-dishes,
salted meat and the local craftsmanship. The nights are very animated,
especially in the bars with local forrós ( local music similar to flamenco from
the north east of Brasil) at Ponta Negra beach.
Beaches
Ponta
Negra is one of the most visited destinations in Brazil with
excellent swimming in the Atlantic Ocean. At the end of the beach, is Morro do
Careca (Careca’s Hill), an enormous dune of more than 100 meters . At night
Ponta Negra becomes the centre of entertainment. There is live music in many
of the restaurants which will complement your freshly caught shellfish or the
famous Picanha (Grilled steak).
Strolls
There
are many places to visit near Natal. On Genipabu, 25 km away from
Natal, there are enormous dunes and lakes, . From Pirangi do Norte,
30 km far from Natal, boats trips take visitors to the natural pools
formed when the tide is low. There are several coral reefs which are excellent
places to practice your snorkelling and diving.
Parque das Dunas (Dunes Park)
The second largest urban park on Brazil, with about 1200 hectares, is a huge
reserve of Atlantic Forest vegetation. It has a wide selection of walking trails that allow you to get close to nature..
How to get there
Natal is on the north-eastern region. It’s 2500
km from Brasilia and 2660 km far from Rio de Janeiro. The
International airport Augusto Severo, is 15 km from the city centre,
operates with flights from the main cities of the country and many direct lines
to the USA and Europe.
